Pilot Light Foundation

The idea of the pilot light is that we will light a small spark that can grow into a larger fire, after we are gone. We see a world where no one is forced to suffer the hardships and humiliation of extreme poverty, where each person has opportunities to improve the quality of their life through entrepreneurship or agriculture or whatever business they are able to do.Roughly 422 million people live in extreme poverty in Africa, that is one in three people. The World Bank defines “extreme poverty” as living on $1.25 or less a day. Pilot Light has been working for 13 years with people living in extreme poverty in Africa to help them improve their lives through creating a sustainable, livable income.

“I was thrilled when Kate agreed to work with me on looking at new ways to fundraise, build a board and brand Pilot Light, the organization that I founded.  She knew all of the right questions to ask in order to have a deep understanding of what we do and how we do it, what is working and what is not. Despite the fact that we quickly became friends, she pushes me hard, sometimes out of my comfort zone, to try new ways of doing business. One of Kate’s talents is that she knows how to bring the right people together to make the most meaningful connections and, through her, I have formed new relationships with people I value both personally and professionally. I think Kate’s greatest superpower is that she believes she can do anything, so she can. ”
